How to Use High Implied Volatility Stocks

The High Implied Volatility Stocks list shows options opportunities in places where the market expects the most price fluctuations:

  • IV Perc and IV Rank use a scale of 0-100% to indicate the current IV level relative to last year. Options prices are higher when IV Perc or IV Rank are >50%, meaning a good time to sell options; when IV Perc and IV Rank are lower, it's a great time to buy options when the prices are low.
  • Total Options Volume is the number of completed options trades today. Open Interest is the total number of open option contracts right now. Higher volume underlying are easier to fill.
  • Call Options Volume and Put Options Volume are the number of Call and Put contracts respectively. The market expects a bullish trend when Call volume is higher, while the market predicts a bearish trend with more Puts.
  • We can use Days To/Since Earnings to countdown to the Earnings Date, when the market expects big price movements. When Days To/Since Earnings is negative, the most recent Earnings Date is in the past, and we expect a big drop in IV.
